Interruptr is a porn blocker for Android. When it catches an attempt, your phone locks for 5 minutes and won't open until you've done 20 pushups. Between urges, it helps you spot your triggers and keep an honest streak. And you can't just switch it off at 2am.

Porn blockers get switched off at 2am

Most blockers work right up until you need them. Then it's a toggle in settings, a VPN switched off, an app deleted. The person who installed it isn't the one holding the phone at 2am.

Interruptr is built for that second person: anyone trying to stop watching porn who is tired of tools that fold at the worst moment. No lecture, no shame. Just a pause you can't skip.

That pause has a name: a pattern interrupt, breaking an automatic habit loop before it can run. It's where Interruptr gets its name.

How it works

How Interruptr stops the urge in the moment

Attempt, lock, pushups, unlock. The whole thing takes about five minutes, which is usually long enough for the moment to pass.

Interruptr is in development. This is how the Android app will work when it launches.

It catches the attempt

Interruptr checks what you type into search and address bars in any app, incognito tabs included, and filters adult sites at the network level. The check happens on your phone. A normal search never sets it off.
Your phone locks for 5 minutes

A full-screen lock sits over everything. Home, Back and recent apps don't get you out. A restart doesn't either. Emergency calls always do.
20 pushups, counted by the camera

Pose detection counts every rep on the device. Nothing is recorded. While you catch your breath: a note from past you, your reasons, a breathing timer, and one tap to call your partner.
It unlocks, and the attempt is counted

A count and a time, nothing more. If you have a partner, they see the number, never what you searched.

Stricter rules during your danger hours: a longer lock, more reps. Set it once in a calm moment and let it do the work at 2am.
A streak you can be honest with

A day counter with milestones at 7, 30 and 90 days. If you slip, log it without shame: your streak resets, a restart plan begins, and honesty never costs you your deposit.
A 10-second check-in

Rate your mood and urge level once a day. It takes seconds, and it's what makes your trigger map smart.

No screenshots. No hidden mode: while Interruptr is on, it will always show a notification. You'll be able to see what your partner sees, and export or delete your data at any time.

Why I'm building Interruptr

It's 2am. You're in bed, half-asleep, and you've already told yourself no three times tonight. The blocker you installed on a good Sunday is still there. It takes a few taps to switch off.

You know how this ends. So did everyone whose story I kept reading.

It's the same night over and over: in communities with more than a million members, in app-store reviews, in the one-star comments under every blocker on the market. Different people, different phones, the same few minutes. One reviewer summed up the whole category in a sentence:

“I can just turn off vpn in settings and this whole thing is gone.”

A porn blocker app review

Nobody in those stories was lazy or weak. They'd done the right things: installed the app, set the password, told a friend. The tools just assumed the person who set them up would be the one holding the phone at 2am. That person never shows up.

So I'm building for the one who does. Interruptr won't argue with the urge, and it won't lecture you afterwards. It makes you stop. Five minutes. Twenty pushups. A note you recorded on a good day, in your own voice. By the time you're up off the floor, the moment has usually passed, and you get to decide again with a clearer head.

And if you ever want out for good, you can leave. It just won't happen at 2am, and it won't be free.

How do I stop watching porn on my Android phone?

Make it harder to act on the urge in the moment, and give yourself something else to do when it hits. On Android, that means a porn blocker that filters adult sites and catches searches, one you can't switch off on a whim, plus a pause long enough for the urge to pass. That's what Interruptr is being built to do.

Many people also lean on a community like NoFap or r/pornfree, or on an accountability app or partner. Interruptr's partner feature is optional and only ever shares counts, never what you searched.

Can I just uninstall Interruptr?

Not with one tap. Interruptr uses Android's uninstall protection, so removing it means switching that off first. When you try, Android shows you Interruptr's warning: your own reasons, the partner who'll be told, and the deposit at stake.

If you back out within 10 minutes, nothing happens. If you go through with it, your partner gets an alert and, if you set one, your deposit goes to charity. It is possible to leave. It just costs something, which is the point.

Does Interruptr do anything besides block?

Yes. Between urges there's a panic button to start an urge session before you slip, a private trigger map that shows when and where urges hit, night mode for your danger hours, a daily 10-second check-in, and a streak you can reset honestly. Short daily lessons and an urge coach are planned after launch.

What if I'm injured or can't do pushups?

During setup you can swap pushups for squats, wall pushups or a short walk. The interrupt is about moving your body and breaking the moment, not about fitness.

Can I still make calls during a lock?

Emergency calls always work, even mid-lock. There is also a button to call or message your accountability partner straight from the lock screen.

What does my accountability partner see?

Counts and status only: how many attempts were blocked, whether protection is on, and a weekly summary. Never what you searched, never the sites, never screenshots. You can see exactly what they see, and change it.

Do I need an accountability partner?

No. A partner is optional. The lock, the pushups and the urge tools all work with no one else involved, so you can keep this completely private if you want.

Does Interruptr read my messages or upload what I type?

No. Interruptr checks text in search and address bars on your phone against a word list, then throws it away. What you type is never stored or uploaded. Only an attempt count and a timestamp leave your phone.

Is Interruptr on iPhone?

Not yet. We're building for Android first, because Android allows the strict version: the real lock and the keyword detection. An iPhone version will follow with a lighter feature set, since Apple doesn't allow apps to lock the phone. Tell us your phone when you join the waitlist and we'll let you know.

Is it free?

The site blocker and streak counter will be free, for good. The interrupt, the partner features and the deposit will be part of a paid plan. We'll share pricing with the waitlist before launch.

Is Interruptr a treatment for porn addiction?

No. It's a habit tool that puts friction and a pause between an urge and an action. It doesn't diagnose or treat anything. If you're struggling or in distress, please talk to a doctor, a therapist or a local support line.

When does it launch?
